AMA Makes Official Statement to the FAA
Mike Greenshields - Scale Squadron Commander
Hey all! I'm not sure you all know, but I'm currently the Commander of the Scale Squadron of California model airplane club. We just released our November edition of our newsletter "Scale Dimensions" and I thought I could share it with all of you to see what we do.
November is all about Thanksgiving, the Turkey day, the day for pumpkin pie, when family and friends watch football and for many, enjoy a 4 day weekend. Thanksgiving is incomplete without the “Thanks” part. The newsletter is my chance to give some thanks too.
We get together each month and talk about planes, share stories, get some modeling motivations, and enjoy some great comradery. Just wanted to give thanks to all you guys and your support of the club, modeling, the field, and each other. What other activity gives you the chance to set aside daily distractions and focus on the pure joy of modeling. And to do with friends is an uncommon gift.
Here's the full newsletter for your reading pleasure:

You Asked, We Answered! About Us Edition
People asked who we are. Legitimate question! Here's a little background.
John Greenshields (Mr. Magnum)
John Greenshields (Mr. Magnum) is a United Stated military veteran (Army, Korea) and a hobby industry veteran. John has been involved in the hobby for decades. From an early age John has always had a fascination with flying getting his pilot's license before his car license in 1946. In the 1960's John worked with hobby greats like Hi Johnson Engines. In the late 1960's, John began work with the original Hobby People. In 1972 John became the first, and only, employee of Hobby Shack. He grew with the company as it grew. He served as Hobby Shack's General Manager until his retirement in 1995. Since then, John has been involved with the continuing development and service of Magnum Engines. John leads the company based in the high-desert. His home field is the Victor Valley Flyers in Hesperia, CA where John is a life-time member.
Mike Greenshields
Mike grew up in the hobby, flying R/C models since he was about 6 years old. Through the 1980's Mike worked in the Hobby Shack stores while attending high school and college. In the 1990's Mike was part of the Hobby Shack/People corporate team and a contributing editor for Hobby Merchandiser during that time. Enter the 2000's where Mike was promoted to Vice President and directed product development of lines like WattAge, Airtronics, and Magnum and later directed the Hobby People Retail stores. Today that passion for the hobby and the industry continues with the Magnum line and involvement in the hobby. Mike's home field is OCMA in Irvine CA and he enjoys any field where there's friendly modelers and a passion for flying. Mike has served on the board of the Scale Squadron of Southern CA for several years running and is the 2017 club president.
All told, we are a 3 generation company with Hobby Experience. EVERYONE in our immediate family has worked in the hobby industry. Mike's son Tim is the webmaster and Mike's other son Chris is an active flyer and part of the management team. Our new modest company is made up of modelers who love the hobby, have experience, and want nothing more than for you to have fun flying MAGNUM!
So, why buy from us???
When you buy a Magnum engine from us, you're buying from people who have tons of experience, a true dedication to modelers, in-stock parts, and a service center.

Magnum RC Engines Replacement Parts
Parts are available!
We are working hard to inventory our stock of Magnum Engine replacement parts. We believe one of the things that has always made this RC engine line special is the availability of affordable parts. As such, we have made sure to have stock for parts for all the engines we carry. We are all in to bring you the same Magnum engine service and availability that you have always enjoyed.
We will have parts listed online soon, but until then you can contact us for parts and availability. Every engine has parts listed with pricing at the bottom of their product page. For your convenience, we have also included a master list below.
Our dedication to service includes being able to contact us! Not only do we have a contact page on our website, but we also are on Facebook and Instagram. If you are local to Southern California, you probably already know which fields you will find Mike and John flying at. We are excited to be able to bring back to you the best RC engine line.
We offer engine servicing!
Don't have the time to work on your own engine? We also offer engine service! We have been working on Magnum engines since the line first came into existence (that's over 20 years!), so we have extensive knowledge on how to repair each and every one of them. For full information on how to take advantage of this service, please visit our Service and Warranty page.
Some time ago, Mikegoesflying.com was a way for us to publicly talk about new products, airplane projects we were working on, and other stuff that interested us. A lot has changed since then. But, WE"RE BACK and excited about serving our fellow modeler!
Our goal at the new Mikegoesflying.com is to have fun, plain and simple. And, if you buy products from us we hope it's because you're having fun too.
Kick back, relax, and enjoy! And if you decide you need a Magnum engine from us, THANK YOU for your consideration! We're truly looking forward to serving you!
Even if you don't, check back now and again. We're building new content and working on new products.
Happy Landings!
